Sooley by John Grisham

The story is about Samuel Sooleymon, who dreams to make it big in the basketball world. The book’s descriptive narration transports us to his world. Sooleymon is a young basketball player who gets selected to represent South Sudan in America. He travels with his team and is astounded by the slice of American life that he experiences. Life for Samuel hasn’t been easy. Focusing on the game in Sudan—a country torn by civil strife—is palpably hard and sombre. As the admiration for the luxurious setting dissipates and the basketball frenzy takes over, a shocking news rattles Sooley’s life. What ensues is a brilliant story of grit, fortitude and passion. The ending is unexpected.
