The Keeper of Stories: mysterious & full of stories

As the book begins, we experience a curiosity into the life of Janice and her collection of real life stories. The narration is easy, entertaining, dreamy and full of stories. The strength suffused in common and working-class women and the mysteries wreathed around them are inspiring to read, at times; ‘The Keeper of Stories’ is one such book. The dismay environing the lives of the ladies is slightly depressing as the novel progresses, although there are times when their helplessness leaves us sympathising and the writing begins to catch our attention. Janice, who works as a maid, is an organised story collector and is careful not to reveal much of her life as she goes about stacking stories in her head until she begins conversing with one Mrs B. Janice appears to be a woman constantly attempting to discern the meaning of life perhaps as she lives a wretchedly miserable one. She despises her husband and their son lives apart—and this contributes to her forlornness. There are some mysterious parts of the book that take us by surprise and a few jocular moments that makes it entertaining. The gossip that they exchange about famous people is interesting, as well. Overall, a good read about the secrets nestled in the hearts of the common & the not-so-common.
